On the first anniversary of the assassination of Hezbollah’s former leader Seyed Hasan Nasrallah, Hamas reaffirmed its full support for the Lebanese resistance movement and declared that Israel will not succeed in breaking the “will of the Resistance.”

In a statement released Saturday, Hamas condemned the “crime of assassination” against Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in September 2024 in a southern Beirut suburb. The statement praised Hezbollah’s sacrifices for the Palestinian cause, including the liberation of occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
According to the Palestinian daily Filastin, Hamas said Israel targeted Nasrallah and other Hezbollah leaders “in an attempt to dissuade the Lebanese Resistance from continuing its support for Palestine.”
Hamas stressed that these actions have not “weakened their will” but have “strengthened and reinforced their determination to continue the path toward liberation.” The statement added: “The pattern of targeted assassinations by the Israeli entity has historically failed to diminish the determination of the Resistance” and warned that “the regional Resistance will not be broken.”
Thousands of Lebanese commemorated Nasrallah in Beirut, marking the anniversary of his 32-year leadership of Hezbollah. His successor, Seyed Hashem Safi al-Din, was also killed in an Israeli airstrike days later.
On the anniversary, Hezbollah’s current leader, Sheikh Naim Qassem, reaffirmed his movement’s commitment to Nasrallah’s legacy and vowed: “We are faithful to the pact we made with the martyred leader. We will not abandon the battlefield nor give up our arms.” His statement directly challenged Israeli and U.S. calls for Hezbollah’s disarmament.
Hamas used the anniversary to restate its “full solidarity” with Lebanon amid ongoing Israeli attacks and called on Arab and Islamic states to support Beirut in this “delicate stage” to counter “repeated Zionist plots and attacks” and to consolidate a “unified Arab position in support of the just causes of the nation.”
Amnesty International has condemned Israel’s actions in Lebanon, citing what it calls “impunity” in repeated attacks against civilian areas.
